On Sunday morning February 7, 2010 the Watchful Eye Testing, Outreach and Prevention team began its commemoration of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day with a visit to the Bethany Baptist Church where the Reverend Dr. David. A. Hampton is the pastor. Watchful Eye Founder and CEO Divinah “Dee” Bailey served as guest speaker for the “Mission Minute” during the 11:00 A.M. service.
Ms. Bailey spoke to a crowd of over three hundred parishioners with a cautionary message regarding the complacency currently surrounding HIV/AIDS in our community but with a message of hope that HIV infection is 100% preventable. The congregation was attentive and obviously agreed with many of the points that Ms. Bailey made, especially about young women, their self-esteem and relationships and how important it is that they make sound decisions because those decisions will affect their entire lives.
This was the first event of Watchful Eye’s February 7th commemoration of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day which culminated in a V.I.P. Reception and “An Evening of Praise and Awareness” Concert at the Brooklyn campus of Long Island University.
